Watercolour & mixed media

I’ve found that working with watercolours offers a refreshing contrast to the intensity of larger oil paintings, which can be intimidating. They allow me to create more freely, without the pressure that often accompanies more time-consuming pieces. I frequently use watercolours during the transition from sketch to final painting, as a way to develop ideas and explore colour palettes.

Watercolours are ideal when I’m aiming for a softer aesthetic with buildable texture, or when I simply want to paint something I can finish in a single sitting. I often enhance these paintings with coloured pencils to introduce texture and refine details. Interestingly, many of these pieces, originally just casual sketches, have become some of my favourites and have found a place in my shop as prints.
